William Johnson, 54, of Ontonagon, Michigan, is a retired, disabled U.S. Marine with a Michigan Concealed Pistol License. When the state of Michigan asked Johnson and his wife to act as foster parents for their grandson, they dutifully went to pick up the child – and their troubles began.
According to a report in The Washington Free Beacon, Johnson was searched for firearms as soon as he arrived. He was not carrying a weapon, but Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) officials demanded to see his concealed carry license and he was informed that he must supply them with serial numbers to all of his guns.
When he protested, one caseworker told Johnson, “If you want to care for your grandson, you will have to give up some of your constitutional rights.” He was told if he did not cooperate, they would simply place his grandson in a different foster home.
