Tracking a cell phone

The police do it every day without a warrant. They're not supposed to, but when have the police ever obeyed the law?

Major Phone Carriers
The four major US Phone carriers all have options to find and track phones that are connected to one account. If your spouse, partner, or children are under your account, you can use these applications to track their location - provided you have permission.

AT&T FamilyMap. https://www.att.com/features/familymap.html On top of tracking where the phone is, you can see location history. You can also receive a notification if the phone leaves a dedicated area.
Sprint Family Locator. http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/service ... pecialCat= Rather than a single app. Sprint offers a suite of applications called Guardian. Included in this suite is the Sprint Family Locator which allows you locate your family members, and receive updates of their location automatically throughout the day.
Verizon Family Locator. https://www.verizonwireless.com/solutio ... y-locator/ Similar to the other carrier’s apps. Verizon Family Locator allows you to locate your family members and receive automatic location updates. You can also create ‘hotspots’ so you receive notifications when your family members arrive and depart from those locations.
T-Mobile FamilyWhere. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4258 At this point, you can only download this app on an Android Device. If you’re using any other devices you have to manage the app through your T-Mobile account. The T-Mobile FamilyWhere app allows you to receive real-time updates of your family member’s locations and schedule automatic location updates.

Tracking Apps
The Apple App Store and Google Play Store have tons of apps that allow you to track someone’s phone. Remember, you’ll need to have written permission to install them if you don’t own the phone. If you collect this information on a phone you don’t own, you most likely won’t be able to use the information gathered in any kind of legal setting. Here are some of the better options we could find:

Connect. This app gathers all of the social media information and posts of your friends and put them in one place. This includes their locations so that you can see where their activity is taking place.
Find My Friends. This application allows you to easily track the locations of your friends and family by invitation. Once they’ve accepted your invitation, they will be added to your network and you can pull up their location at any point.
Phone Tracker. Using this application will turn on the GPS for the phone you’re tracking for its real time location. The difference between this app and most is that it will create a 24-hour map of the movements of the phone. That makes it great for tracking family members but also employees.
mSpy. Is the most powerful phone monitoring tool I’ve seen. It allows you to track a phone’s location, log the messages that are sent and received, see the call logs and much more.

Generally speaking, it is illegal to access someone’s computer (this includes smartphones) without authorization.
