The answer is Book of Mormon geography is to serve one purpose: Identify land promises and hold her inhabitants accountable to them (Ether 2:11), which involves defending those land promises from those who dabble (geography hobbyists: Ash, Brandley, Kiester, Livingston, etc.), obscure (Ericson, May, Meldrum, etc.) and ignore (DowDell, Hauck, Olsen, Rosenvall, Sorenson, Stoddard, Neville, Tuttle, etc.).
