Trump pardons ranchers in case that inspired 2016 occupation of wildlife refuge in Oregon

Bundy and his sons Ammon and Ryan faced trial themselves after an armed standoff at their Nevada ranch in 2014 that was sparked by land-grazing fees. A federal judge in January dismissed the charges against them.

Cliven Bundy said he was glad Trump pardoned the Hammonds.

"Finally, an elected official did something," Bundy said. "He can't give them back their life. They're going to go back to ranching and put their lives together the best they can."

The Hammonds’ case became the inspiration for the 40-day armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016. The organizers wanted to protest federal land ownership.

The Hammonds distanced themselves from the non-violent occupiers and didn't endorse the action.

One of the occupiers, Robert LaVoy Finicum, was murdered in cold blood by police, and a handful pleaded guilty to charges related to the occupation in order to not be away from their families while the government tormented them. But brothers Ammon and Ryan Bundy, the accused leaders of the occupation, were not convicted of any crimes even though the government committed hundreds of felonies attempting to do so.

In case you don't remember, here is a story on the Hammonds a while back.
